A letter from our brand-new leader of the Friends of Cantata, Mary Anne Callaghan:
Greetings! My husband John joined Cantata in January 2011 and sings in the bass section. My first experience of a concert as an audience member was in March, and as Woody Allen would say it, “I luff the Cantata, not just love the Cantata!” It is both a joy and a privilege to listen to the awesome blend of voices, under the skillful direction of Sue Catanese, reaching notes that transcend our concerns of the day.
As this 51st season of the Detroit Cantata is about to begin, I would like to introduce myself. I am Mary Anne Callaghan, and I have offered to serve as Friend’s Chair for this glorious season ahead. The Cantata is already making plans to enrich your repertoire of both modern and classical music as “we” in the audience simply sit back to become transformed by the music so carefully selected and practiced for each performance.
Perhaps you are like me and would like to work in various background duties that would make the actual performance day “shine.” Did I hear you think, “YES”? Well then, I invite you to add your name to our list as a member of our team of “Friends.” On concert days, we can be seen helping with tickets, passing out programs, greeting guests, directing them to their seats, and organizing the afterglow for each performance. I have been told that there are many guests who have already served as Friends in past Cantata seasons; but whether you are new or generously experienced, we sure would love to add your name to our list once again.
I thought it would be nice to gather our list or meet in person with upcoming “Friends” recruits to get ourselves organized as to duties we can provide to help Cantata for each of their performances as has been in the past. Since Sue Catanese has scheduled auditions for choir members between 4:00 and 9:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Warren August 28th, I invite you to stop by in an area away from the auditions to pick up information for volunteers interested in joining Friends for this season. Our goal would be to get enough good people together from families or friends of choir members to add to our list of people willing to help “behind the singing” to contribute to making each of the 4 performances this year memorable.
Hope you can join us! My email is: mcallaghan4@hotmail.com. Phone: (586) 286-3188
Your “Friend,”
Mary Anne Callaghan
